Making Bird Toys is my Passion

In February 2021, I met the most amazing Umbrella Cockatoo!

Gracie. Gracie is going to be 30 years old this November. She is one of the most amazing, smart, and joyful companions. She talks up a storm, and lets opinions be known. She knows more words than most five year olds, and is always learning more, whether you want her to or not.

That being said, what has this got to do with Parrot toys? Gracie is extremely destructive, and opinionated. She is also uniquely smart in her own way. This means that the toys you can buy locally, here in Olympia, WA just won’t due. She has disassembled or just completely destroyed the toys sold by the local big brand stores.

This made me start looking for my own solutions. I wanted to make toys that would appeal to her, while at the same time lasting more than five minutes. I found a wonderful, knowledgeable person in Jodi Olmos (the owner of Kiko’s Parrot Toys in Puyallup) whom helped me learn about all things parrots to include safe woods, safe dyes, safe chains, and varous other things. (I know I haven’t learned it all, and probably never will)

I started using the power tools I already owned, and building toys for Gracie just for fun, while still purchasing toys from Kiko’s. Earlier this year, I became unemployed, and decided I wanted to make toys for birds full-time for the rest of my life.

This is how my journey to Kaw and Klaw Parrot Toys began, and hopefully will continue for many years to come.

Thank you for taking time to read my story and look at my parrot toys.
